Companies including ITV, the Prince’s Trust and Rolls Royce were among the guests who were divided into three groups to sample drinks, main course and dessert in each of the museums’ event spaces.

The Science Museum put on an Olympic-themed show, acrobatic performances by Full Circle in the venue’s Energy Hall, Exploring Space Gallery and Making the Modern World Gallery. Moving Venue provided the cuisine of former Olympic hosts, while White Light provided video animation of the Olympic torch onto the Gallery walls.

In the Natural History Museum’s Darwin Centre and Courtyard, guests were treated to a Rio-inspired carnival party, with production and florals by Event Concept and Veevers Carter. Rhubarb provided a Brazilian barbecue, where meats were cooked in front of guests on elaborate fire bowls. Sternberg Clarke provided performances and a celebrity appearance by chef Heston Blumenthal.

Finally, the V&A embraced a colourful celebration of summer in the John Madejski Garden with champagne, cocktails and live food prepared at a chef’s table by the recipe. Production by Light Motif included coloured backdrops to the reception and a ‘walking-on-water’ performance.

Flowers were courtesy of Philippa Craddock while entertainment from Sternberg Clarke included Sararosa performing Jazz and Bossa music in the ellipse. Capoeira Ceara then closed the V&A section of the night with a performance of Afro Brazilian music and dance.
