Over 80 exhibition industry stalwarts attended Richard Armitage’s retirement party last night, hosted by Mash Media at the Enterprise Hotel. Richard Armitage has retired after more than 40 years in the exhibition and display industry. He built the first ever modular shell system in 1968, which became the world’s biggest selling modular system, and still is, over 40 years later, under the Octanorm name. Speaking at the event Armitage said he was “utterly thrilled” by the amount of faces that turned up to wish him well. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my working life. I passionately believe in the exhibition industry and the face to face business opportunities it creates, I am looking forward to relaxing and enjoying more leisure time, starting with visiting more exhibitions in 2010!” he added. Mash Media’s MD, Julian Agostini, said: “Richard has been a great friend in business to me as he was to my dad. One of the great supporters of the industry, Richard has always been willing to support new initiatives. An incredible character with complete confidence in his own instincts, I don’t think I ever heard him ask “who else is in?” A true market leader – I’ll miss him.” See all the pictures from the event, and read an exclusive interview with Richard Armitage in a future issue of Exhibition News.
