Autumn trade fair sees visitor numbers double

Visitor numbers have doubled at Scotland’s Trade Fair Autumn, organisers claim.According to unaudited figures the show attracted nearly 1500 buyers, up from 749 in 2009. A spokesperson for fair organiser Springboard Events said a major catalyst was its decision to relocate from Alberts Hall in Stirling to the larger Scotland Exhibition and Convention Centre, Glasgow.Springboard MD Mark Saunders claimed the show, which ran from 19 to 20 September, is becoming a clear fixture in the autumn trade show calendar. Exhibitors included a mix of Scottish and international producers. The Autumn Fair was shelved two years ago due to lack of interest and the beginning of the recession, but was subsequently taken over and relaunched by Springboard Events. “The show is still very much a ‘work in progress’ and we will need to grow it further next year to offer more choice for buyers,” Saunders said. “It is great for suppliers to see demand is out there for high quality and original giftware and demonstrates the strength of this sector in Scotland.”The spokesperson said it took a smaller, more intimate approach with the Autumn show in contrast to its larger three-day spring event, held every January. The next Spring fair will take place 23-25 January 2011 at the SECC. The 2010 event attracted about 5000 visitors.
