Bear Grylls sets course for RIBEX
by Annie Byrne
TV adventurer Bear Grylls will be racing the organiser of the powerboat exhibition RIBEX, Hugo Montomery-Swan, across the Solent from Portsmouth to the Isle of White. On 7 May, the survival star and chief scout will set course for the adventure powerboat show from Gunwharf Quay to Cowes Yacht Haven on the Isle of Wight, where he will run up the pontoon to the Suzuki Marine stand and officially open the show. “It was obvious we had to do something adrenaline-filled to introduce Bear as the star guest,” says Montgomery-Swan. “He’s been training for an extremely difficult RIB voyage through the icy North West Passage and, as I’m a devoted RIB rider, I came up with the idea of challenging him to ride alongside me to Cowes to launch RIBEX 2010. I’m starting to regret it now though, I think he might beat me there!” Around 80 RIBS are set to be on show at the Yacht Haven and a further 100 visiting RIBs will be moored up.
