Bigger gadgets, more brands

UK - The Gadget Show Live will almost double in size for its second outing in 2010 at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. Organisers, Upper Street Events, North One Television and Five will also run the consumer exhibition, based on the TV show, for an additional day next year. “The Gadget Show Live sold out three weeks early in 2009 and we’re expanding the show to help minimise disappointment for people who couldn’t previously get tickets,” says event director at Upper Street Events, Matt Hodgins. “We’ve already sold almost 30,000 tickets since the box office opened last month.” The organisers are expecting more than 50,000 visitors during the four-day event, which runs from 8 to 11 April 2010, and has signed up more than 200 exhibitors including Canon, Panasonic, Packard Bell, Nikon, Olympus, PC World, and Segway. “There was an incredible £385 spent on average per head in 2009, so we expect a lot of electronics shopping to happen in 2010,” adds Hodgins. Upper Street Events has filled the additional space with a series of new feature areas including a Future Tech Zone, Outdoor Zone, Gadget Show Build Museum and Photographic Workshop Theatre. Its Super Theatre will also expand to accommodate up to 4,000 visitors, three times a day, and the Game Zone will double in size.
