Confex 2011 offers enhanced hosted buyer programme and new look

The organiser of International Confex has flagged an improved hosted buyer programme and new look and feel as highlights of the upcoming March event. Confex is delivered by UBM Live and takes place at Earls Court from 1 to 3 March 2011. Portfolio director Jonny Sullens told EN it was implementing a more significant hosted buyer programme than previously, in a bid to better service attendees. “If you’re hosted and put up in a hotel, your commitment back is to participate in a set number of appointments at the show. This information is being entered in our back-end software so we can start tracking appointments,” he explained. “This is nothing new – other events like EIBTM and IMEX have done this for several years. Our business model is slightly different, but we know we need to do this and it will help us, particularly with exhibitors who are used to turning up with a full diary of appointments. We are moving in this direction to help companies get that justification and return on investment (ROI). “Delivering ROI is quite a challenge – as an exhibitor, you take leads on a stand and follow them up, but as an organiser we don’t always have visibility of that. Our new system allows us a more intelligence conversation with those hosted buyers and exhibitors.”An additional 150 association attendees are also being targeted for a standalone conference as part of Confex’s first-day Association Day.   Sullens, who took over as Confex portfolio director after the departure of Duncan Reid last September, said the industry event will also have a new look and feel incorporating an indoor pool and floating bar, courtesy of a partnership with organiser Media 10. Other visual additions include audiovisual cubes, new front-of-house dressings and an overhauled reception area.
