Fresh RM sets sights on business growth

Fresh RM is switching its focus onto expansion and creating a business development director’s post to drive new exhibition strategy. UK-based Fresh RM is a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions and Montgomery. Its MD Toby Wand told EN a recent decision to put five staff on dedicated Fresh RM contracts was a sign of the organiser’s long-term ambitions. The company has 25 staff but most were previously on either Reed or Montgomery contracts. “When I joined Fresh RM, I questioned the longevity of the JV because invariably, most have a natural shelf life and one partner usually takes the other on-board,” Wand said. “The board has now requested we employ people under Fresh RM contracts, so we have our own contracts for five recruits. “It’s a sign of the confidence each owner feels in where we are taking the business.” Wand said the next step is to recruit a business development director to drive expansion plans in the UK and abroad. “We are test marketing a number of new projects and looking at opportunities to take existing brands overseas by either partnering or franchising,” he continued. “We are also looking at the changes happening within the buying community across the food, drink, hospitality and leisure industries in the UK with an opportunity for launch events. Plus, we have two very strong shows we need to maintain and develop further and we’re making strategic changes to that effect.” Fresh RM’s January Hospitality show reported an 8 per cent uptick in visitors, triggered by stronger business conditions and new features.
