Grosvenor's demise spawns new antique fairs

Four new antiques exhibitions are set to hit London next summer in an attempt to fill the void left by the demise of the Grosvenor House Art and Antiques Fair. Art Antiques London from Haughton International Fairs, The West London and Antiques Fair from Penman Fairs, London International Fine Art Fair from IFAE and Clarion Events, and Masterpiece 2010 from some of those involved in Grosvenor House Art and Antiques Fair, will all run in June, the month when the historic fair would have taken place. A spokesperson for Haughton International Fairs tells EN the company was approached by dealers following the closure of Grosvenor House Art and Antiques Fair to put together a new event for London in June. “We would never have gone up against Grosvenor House, but when it closed and we heard about Masterpiece 2010, we decided to go for it. Something has to fill the vacuum.” She added that only time will tell if the launch of the four shows will adversely affect their performance.
