This year’s Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference in Liverpool was the party’s biggest ever, with 6,500 delegates and visitors contributing an estimated £10m economic boost to the city. The five-day conference was held at ACC Liverpool and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: “Outside of an election, our autumn conference is simply the biggest and most important event in our party’s political calendar. And this year it has been the biggest conference in our party’s history. “ACC Liverpool has been an excellent choice of venue for our first conference as a party of Government in more than 70 years and we are proud to have been the first major political party to hold an autumn conference in Liverpool. We received an incredible welcome from the people and businesses.”Lib Dems Conference and Events Manager, Lucy Billingsley, said she was “delighted” with the delegate experience and Chief Executive of ACC Liverpool, Bob Prattey, believed his venue had exceeded delegates’ expectations, claiming security arrangements and event organisation had all run smoothly. A TUC rally with 4,000 demonstrators had been kept away from the venue by police who said temporary structures, including the Liverpool wheel, had made it unsafe to allow protestors nearer to the BT Convention Centre. The conference attracted 80 exhibitors, including EON, Royal Mail and Lloyds Banking Group and 206 fringe meetings took place at the venue, with an additional 200 taking place across the city.“This conference has delivered huge value for the city, not just in terms of visitor spend, but also in the way it has acted as a shop window for Liverpool and all it has to offer as a business, leisure, tourism and investment destination,” Prattey added.
