Liverpool unveils Shanghai 2010 pavilion

Liverpool has unveiled the pavilion which will represent the city at the Shanghai World Expo 2010.Stand coordinator Liverpool Vision hopes to raise awareness of the city’s cultural, historical, and business offerings at the World Expo, which will run 1 May - 1 October 2010 and is expected to attract 70m visitors.Liverpool council leader Warren Bradley says: “The designs and concepts behind the pavilion are a true reflection of the city, drawing on its maritime, musical and sporting heritage, as well as its wider cultural offer.”Liverpool is the only UK city to have a dedicated pavilion. London, in contrast, chose to exhibit from a stand inside the UK pavilion.Head of news for the London Development Agency, in charge of exhibiting for London in Shanghai, Stuart Neil, says: “We were looking at various options of how to go to the Expo and participate.
