London Wetlands Centre wins gold tourism award

The WWT London Wetland Centre, a wildlife haven on the banks of the River Thames, has been awarded Gold in the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS). The centre also boasts exhibition and conference facilities. The award was ‘due to the successful efforts to not only increase the biodiversity of the wetland area but also to educate visitors on the wider area of sustainability’."Conference and event organisers are increasingly looking for venues with ‘green’ credentials, so we're delighted that we can now host events with minimal impact on the environment," said the Wetland Centre’s GM Martin Senior.Initiatives at the Centre included recycling 98 per cent of waste, providing bike racks for staff and visitors, reducing energy usage where possible and monitoring the carbon footprint each year.
