Modern day Great Exhibition to coincide with Olympics

A new 90-day exhibition set to showcase all that is great and good of British culture and society will launch alongside the Olympics in 2012, capitalising on the hundreds of thousands of international visitors to the UK.Inspired by The Great Exhibition in 1851 and the Festival of Britain in 1951, the Great Exhibition 2012 will take place from June to August 2012 at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, encompassing the arts, business, fashion and culture.Television journalist and supporter of the exhibition, Sir Michael Parkinson, says: “It’s about art galleries and cathedrals and places with a sense of history, a sense of the past. It’s about fish and chips, blue nose comics and cubs.” Event CEO, Julie Benson, says celebrations surrounding past national events such as the Queen’s Jubilee made her realise that we should always feel that close as a community and a country. “Putting on a festival of the size and shape that we want the Great Exhibition to be will create a fantastic showcase for Britain, and help people see just how many opportunities are at our feet.”Stoneleigh Park has 21,000sqm of floor space, 800 acres of arable land and pasture and a 250 acre showground.
