NEC steps up to the oche with new sports exhibition

NEC Birmingham will hold its first consumer darts show next year following the launch of Dartex Live.The two-day event is expected to attract 7,000 visitors and will take place in the 500sqm pavilion. Several current and legends of the game will be on-hand to talk to attendees including Eric Bristow and Ted Hankey. Up to 50 retail exhibitors are also expected, displaying the latest darts equipment or memorabilia.Other features include a national knock-out pub team competition, master classes with professional players, and the opportunity to win a Mercedes in the Nine Darts Charity Challenge. In addition, organisers will bring back the cult 1980s TV show, Bullseye, with original umpire, Tony Green.Organiser Nici Gallagher says darts has transformed itself in recent years from a favourite game of working men’s clubs into one of Britain’s fastest growing sports. She claimed there were now 2m players and 8m enthusiasts in the UK, supported by a growing worldwide community.Dartex 2011 will take place on 29 to 30 May 2011.
