Smaart Publishing to launch careers fair with ex-Jarvis event director

Careers specialist Smaart Publishing has employed the services of former Jarvis event director Bruce Birchall to launch a new event at Wembley Stadium. Smaart Skills and Careers 2011 takes place at the Bobby Moore room at Wembley Stadium on February 16-17, and is hoped to attract 20,000 visitors in Smaart’s key market; young people looking to begin on the career path. It will be the first live event run by Smaart, which publishes more than 40 careers journals a year, including Smaart Advice, Get Smaart and Smaart Talent, which it produces in association with the Windsor Fellowship. The new exhibition is planned to give young adults aged 15-24 an opportunity to learn about training schemes, apprenticeships, educational options and skills opportunities. "Our client base has given a very positive ‘yes’ to Smaart moving into the events sector and they have been very positive in supporting the exhibition,” says Smart director, Mark Flack. “The venue is absolutely fabulous and in an area which has been lacking in Careers events for several years." Birchall, who will project manage the event, spent 10 years building the highly successful Careers, Skills and Jobs Live brand during his 10-year tenure at Jarvis, which ceased trading in April. Jarvis’s Careers and Jobs Live UK shows attracted a total of more than 150,000 visitors and 900 exhibitors each year. He subsequently formed Brock Studio, through which he is working on a number of other client projects alongside this one. “We’ve appointed a careers advisor marketing group to ensure we invite the right people to the event. We’re trying to do something different with this event, to engage the young people that will benefit from the event and help them to find the first rung on the career ladder,” Birchall told EN, adding that Smaart’s is exploring other opportunities for events.
