Students welcomed at World Travel Market

Organisers of World Travel Market 2009 claim the event’s inaugural Future You conference was a “massive success” and will form part of the exhibition moving forward. The conference, which ran over half a day, offered advice to more than 300 tourism students and graduates. Speakers gave tips on CVs and interviews, advice on how to find jobs in the sector as well as further training options. "The current financial downturn means future graduates are facing the toughest job market in generations,” says head of marketing at WTM, Micaela Juarez. “Considering this was the first time it had run, WTM was delighted with the number of attendees and their response.” The conference was run in conjunction with the Institute of Travel and Tourism and the Tourism Society. Juarez says talks are currently in process with both associations regarding a similar event next year. Chairman of the Tourism Society, Alison Cryer, adds: "The attendance figure speaks for itself, proving there is a genuine need for this type of event. It is the career development of the future of our industry that has united these two leading associations in one common goal. We certainly look forward to making Future You a regular feature in our annual events calendar.”
