Tottenham Hotspur has announced a joint bid with American sports and entertainment company AEG to take over the London Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.AEG, owner of the O2 arena, has confirmed the joint bid. If it is successful, Tottenham Hotspur may abandon plans to rebuild their current home ground, White Hart Lane. However, the joint bid includes plans to scrap the running track, which goes against conditions of the takeover deal. Olympic venues must retain their use as athletics facilities. The move places Tottenham in direct competition for the venue with West Ham United, a bid backed by Newham Council.
