UFI report provides insight on 2000 audited European shows

Global exhibition association UFI has compiled a 2009 Euro Fair Statistics (EFS) report, containing audited statistics of 2,092 exhibitions from 20 European countries. The report offers statistics collected by 12 auditing bodies, and includes exhibitions covering over 20 million sqm of registered rented space. UFI managing director Paul Woodward said that UFI is a strong believer “in the value of high quality, audited data as a foundation for communicating the importance of exhibitions to marketers”. “We are pleased to have been able to draw together this reliable data from most of the big exhibition markets in Europe. We believe this report gives the most accurate picture of the important fairs in the region,” he added. The 2009 events covered in the report were managed by 450 organisers, and had a total of 578,788 exhibitors, registering a total attendance of 50.8 million visitors. Forty per cent of the exhibitions were targeted at trade visitors, with 37 per cent aimed at public visitors and 23 per cent at both target groups. UFI estimates the audited trade fairs included in this report represent between 40-45 per cent of the European exhibition market in terms of net rented space. A spokesman for the association plans to include the industry sector for each event in future editions of the annual EFS report. This will create a basis for analysis of both regional and global trends between different industries.
