VisitBritain has struck an agreement to co-locate its Discovery 2011 international meetings and incentive event with the International Confex meetings industry show at Earls Court. The five-day programme will take place from 27 February to 3 March 2011 and is expected to attract 125 buyers from 30 countries. VisitBritain estimated the hosted buyers will have a combined potential events budget of £500m to spend in Britain and will be the largest delegate group in its history. An equal number of UK suppliers are also expected to be represented.  “We are delighted to partner with International Confex as this will allow our buyers to really make the most of their time in Britain,” Manager of VisitBritain’s EventBritain team, Nathan Alemany, said. The division was set-up to focus exclusively on driving event business in the UK.“Discovery aims to build those all-important relationships between buyers and the UK’s business tourism suppliers and Confex will provide the perfect platform for them to make even more great contacts.” UBM Live Confex Portfolio Director, Jonny Sullens, added International Confex was aimed at reflecting the best of the event industry. “Our partnership with Discovery means that we will be working with VisitBritain to deliver even greater value to both events,” he said. The Discovery 2011 itinerary consists of workshops, networking events and entertainment including an Olympic Park tour, a ride on the Orient Express’s British Pullman train, Windsor Castle and Wentworth golf club. Delegates will also be invited to a drinks reception on the Thames, dine at Altitude 360 and visit several London meeting and event venues. Guests will be accommodated at the Park Plaza Westminster hotel and flown by Virgin Atlantic. The last Discovery event was held in 2008 in Liverpool and Manchester and attended by 80 international buyers.
